In Yumbe, Women Are Bringing the Shea Tree Back

In Yumbe, Save the Sheanut Tree Foundation is restoring the shea tree as more than an environmental concern. It is a source of livelihood, women’s enterprise, climate resilience, and community memory. Through community education, seedling distribution, nursery development, value-addition training, and public advocacy, women are being positioned as central defenders of the shea ecosystem. The project has strengthened conservation awareness, supported women-led enterprise, and elevated shea restoration as a district priority, while making one thing clear: the future of shea must include the women who have long carried its value.
